Scientific name: Nannophya pygmaea

Habitat: marsh

Body length: 17-19 mm

Distribution in Hong Kong: Scatteredly distributed in New Territories, e.g. Pat Sin Leng, Kai Kuk Shue Ha, Cheung Sheung 

Flight period in Hong Kong: April to September

Identification features (male): 

1. Upper half of eyes red

2. Synthorax and abdomen bright red

3. Black stripes on dorsum of synthorax

4. Legs all black

5. Apparent reddish brown spot on wingbase

Identification features (female): 

1. Synthorax brown, with yellow stripes at two sides

2. Abdomen brown, with yellow stripes on dorsum

3. Apparent brown spots on wingbase
