Pale-spotted Emperor
Scientific name: Anax guttatus
Habitat: marsh, pond, slow-flowing stream
Body length: 78-86 mm
Distribution in Hong Kong: widespread, such as Long Valley, Hong Kong Wetland Park, Hok Tau, Po Toi
Flight period in Hong Kong: March to November
Similar species: Blue-spotted Emperor, Lesser Emperor (Comparison)
Identification features:
1. A black triangular spot at where the frons sticks to the compound eyes
2. Synthorax green with no apparent stripes at two sides
3. Inner edge of hindwing of both sexes smooth
4. Spots on abdomen dot-like
5. Second abdominal segment mainly blue in male, and either green or blue in female
