Tawny Hooktail

Scientific name: Paragomphus capricornis

Habitat: stream with sandy substrate and drainage channel

Body length: 45-49 mm

Distribution in Hong Kong: Scattered over Hong Kong, e.g. Tan Shan River, Lion Rock Country Park, Aberdeen Reservoir

Flight period in Hong Kong: March to September

Identification features: 

1. Two yellow stripes at two sides of synthorax respectively

2. Dorusm of 3th to 7th abdominal segment with yellow spots of similar size; Yellow spots more developed in female

3. Two large yellow spots on the 9th abdominal segment in male

4. Superior anal appendage “long hook”-like, inferior anal appendage short in male
