Chinese Hooktail

Scientific name: Ophiogomphus sinicus

Habitat: fast-flowing stream with gravel substrate

Body length: 59-62 mm

Distribution in Hong Kong: Mainly in north and central New Territories, e.g. Sha Lo Tung, Hok Tau, Yuen Tun Ha

Flight period in Hong Kong: May to September

Similar species: Hainan Hooktail, Guangdong Hooktail (Comparison)

Identification features: 

1. Yellow stripe on dorsal carina 

2. Two yellow stripes at two sides of synthorax respectively, and some individuals with small yellow spot between yellow stripes

3. Large yellow spot on 7th abdominal segment

4. Superior anal appendage and inferior anal appendage form a “C” in male
