Scientific name: Macrodiplax cora

Habitat: coastal marsh and pond

Body length: 40-45 mm

Distribution in Hong Kong: Mainly in north New Territories and along coasts e.g. Luk Keng, Lai Chi Wo, Hong Kong Wetland Park

Flight period in Hong Kong: May to November

Identification features (male):

1. Synthorax reddish brown, with w-shaped black stripes at two sides

2. Abdomen red, and dorsum with broad black vertical stripes, like a number of  broken “I”
