Small Dragonhunter

Scientific name: Sieboldius alexanderi

Habitat: woodland stream

Body length: 86-91 mm

Distribution in Hong Kong: Mainly in north New Territories, e.g. Sha Lo Tung, Hok Tau; also recorded in Central New Territories, e.g. Tai Mo Shan, Tai Po Kau

Flight period in Hong Kong: May to September

Identification features: 

1. Head small

2. Dorsal carina with yellow stripe, forming an inverted “山”-shaped yellow spot with other yellow stripes

3. Two broad yellow stripes on synthorax, with a small yellow stripe in between 

3. Hind legs long

4. Abdomen stout
